The firing of what "Israel" called "warning shots" during a diplomatic visit to the occupied West Bank was "unacceptable," a UN spokesperson said Wednesday on behalf of Secretary-General António Guterres.

"It is clear that diplomats who are doing their work should never be shot at, attacked in any way, shape, or form. Their safety, their viability, must be respected at all times," Stephane Dujarric, United Nations spokesperson, told reporters.

"These diplomats, including UN personnel, were fired at, warning shots or whatever... which is unacceptable," he asserted.

According to Palestinian sources, Israeli occupation forces opened fire on Wednesday, targeting a joint Arab-European diplomatic delegation during their visit to the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.

A delegation consisting of 30 ambassadors and consuls was carrying out a field visit to evaluate the humanitarian conditions in Jenin, a region that has repeatedly faced Israeli military incursions.

Condemnations pour in

On Wednesday, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation following its forces' gunfire targeting a diplomatic convoy during a visit to Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank.

Kallas declared that "any threat to the lives of diplomats is unacceptable," while demanding that the Israeli regime promptly investigate the incident and ensure accountability for those responsible

Spain's Foreign Ministry released a forceful statement denouncing the incident, emphasizing that Israeli occupation forces discharged warning shots toward diplomats participating in a Palestinian Authority-organized event.

The ministry confirmed that a Spanish citizen within the delegation remained unharmed and stated that Madrid is working with other affected nations to formulate a collective diplomatic reaction.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated he would summon "Israel's" ambassador in Paris for clarification after receiving reports that French diplomats were included among those endangered.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly denounced the incident, characterizing it as "an attack on a diplomatic mission" while asserting that the Israeli government bears "full and direct responsibility for this cowardly assault."

Israeli violations of West Bank intensify

The ministry emphasized that the incident would not go unpunished and called on the international community, particularly the countries represented in the targeted delegation, to take a clear and firm stance.

Earlier in the day, the Israeli occupation forces carried out a series of raids across several towns and cities in the occupied West Bank, including demolitions, arrests, and assaults on residents, further disrupting daily life and movement.
