Former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami strongly condemned the recent US military aggression on Iranian territory, calling the assault a direct attack on Iran’s national unity and identity.
His remarks followed overnight US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.
The aggression, ordered by President Donald Trump, was framed by Washington as a move to cripple Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Trump warned that Tehran must agree to “end this war” or face more severe consequences.
In a sharply worded statement released Sunday, Khatami denounced Washington’s actions as a flagrant violation of international law and Iran’s territorial integrity.
He warned that the true goal of the war is to dismantle Iran’s national strength and disrupt the collective spirit of its people.

US seeks to destroy Iran’s identity and unity, Khatami says
“The alliance of evil and aggression,” Khatami stated, “is an alliance against Iran’s territorial unity, its precious civilizational heritage, and the identity of the Iranian people.”
He portrayed the US-led attack as a broader campaign aimed at undermining the foundations of Iranian society.
Call for wisdom and restraint in Iran’s response
While condemning the aggression, Khatami urged Iranian leaders to act with caution, wisdom, and discipline.
He called for wisdom and prudence in all decisions, positions, and defensive and diplomatic measures, urging that actions be taken without emotional reactions or vengeful impulses.
The former Iranian president emphasized that Iran’s right to defense and deterrence must aim to end the war “at the lowest possible cost and in the shortest possible time,” in order to restore hope and stability to the Iranian people.
Khatami says US involvement signals global moral collapse
Khatami indicated that the US’ direct involvement in the conflict "is proof of a grave moral and legal collapse dominating today’s global order."
He also warned that “this war threatens not only Iran but also global coexistence, security, and peace,” holding the US accountable for destabilizing both regional and international order.
