US behavior regarding Gaza to widen area of conflict: Assad
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says during a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister that the United States' stance and behavior regarding Gaza would lead to further conflict in the region.
The way the United States is conducting itself regarding Gaza will exacerbate the conflict and spread it to other countries within the region, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Sunday.
During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, al-Assad underlined that supplying "the Zionist entity with deadly weapons, and Washington's attacks and assaults in different regions, will widen the conflict."
He added that the Israeli escalation in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon is "an attempt to extricate the Zionist entity from the predicament," emphasizing that "it is our duty to stand with the Palestinian people to the fullest extent of our capacity."
The Syrian President pointed out that what the Palestinian people achieved during the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza "has not been achieved since the inception of the Palestinian cause."
In turn, Amir-Abdollahian stated that the aggression on Gaza is now considered the main issue, not only regionally but on an international level.
"Syria is at the forefront in supporting the Palestinian people and their cause," the Iranian foreign minister underlined.
After the meeting, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized in a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, the necessity of stopping the war in Gaza. He highlighted that "the key to sustainable security in the region is to stop the crimes against the Palestinian people," pointing out that this "could not be achieved through war."
Mekdad, on his part, said the crimes committed by the occupying US and Turkish forces in northern Syria were "crimes against humanity," adding that the Syrian people are united in their stance regarding the withdrawal of the US and Turkish occupation forces from Syria.
The Syrian top diplomat also said that since the formation of "the Zionist entity on Palestinian territories, Syria has been resisting this occupation," clarifying that "Syria has fought wars against Israeli occupation and is ready to engage in wars against it, but it decides when and how."
Mekdad concluded by affirming that "liberating the occupied Syrian Arab Golan is among our priorities."
Amir-Abdollahian's visit to the region began in Lebanon on Friday, wherein the Iranian top diplomat affirmed that the Israeli occupation has failed to achieve any of its objectives despite four months of genocide in Gaza and the West Bank.
Amir-Abdollahian, who had just landed at the Beirut International Airport, held a press conference in which he talked about the latest regional developments and his country's support for Lebanon in light of the ongoing regional tensions.
The Iranian Foreign Minister revealed that Tehran had informed the United States of the necessity of not supporting the Israeli occupation in the genocidal war it is waging against the Palestinian people. The continuation of said support, he stressed, support "will only lead to failure."
He also underlined that the Israeli occupation was seeking to entangle Washington in the quagmire of war in the region.
Amir-Abdollahian said he sees that Hezbollah and the resistance in Lebanon "played their influential roles wisely,", going on to underline Iran's support for Lebanon, from its government to its army and Resistance.
"The security of the region stems from that of Lebanon," he underlined.
