US, European elites using information tech for provocations: Moscow
The United States and Europe's elites are using the dissemination of information as a means of provoking Russia and sowing conflict with it, says MFA spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
The political elite in the United States and Europe are using information technologies for provocations and propaganda, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Saturday.
"Political elites in the US and Europe are using informational communication technologies for agitation, provocations, propaganda, and sometimes indoctrination rather than for a noble purpose to deliver unbiased information to the general public," Zakharova said.
The Western elites are using the technologies for these purposes "with no regard for norms and traditions of different countries and communities," the spokesperson added in a video address to the participants in the World Online Conference on Multipolarity.
Furthermore, Zakharova underlined that it was impossible to have the one and only center for information control in light of Western attempts to create one.
This comes after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the United States and its allies' efforts the United States and its allies' efforts to force the international community to adopt their version of the rule-based world order has failed.
"It seems only natural that efforts by Washington and its satellites to reverse the course of history and force the international community to live up to a ‘rules-based world order’ have failed. I will only mention the completely failed course toward isolating Russia that the Westerners have been pursuing," he told the attendees.

"The majority of countries inhabited by some 85% of the world’s population are reluctant to pull the chestnuts out of the fire for former colonial powers," he added.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Friday that the conflict in Ukraine confirms the focus of Washington and its allies on provoking other countries to a military confrontation with Moscow and Beijing.
"Today, Washington and its accomplices are implementing their strategic plan, which consists in provoking other countries into a military confrontation with ... primarily with Russia and China," Shoigu said at a regular defense ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in New Delhi, India.
"A clear confirmation of such a criminal policy is the conflict in Ukraine. Its true goal is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, threaten China and maintain its monopoly position in the world," the Russian Defense Minister pointed out.
