US vows aid to Ukraine amid increasing concerns of frontline collapse
US lawmakers assure allies of impending aid for Ukraine as concerns rise over former US President Donald Trump's potential interference, while doubts persist about Ukraine's capabilities and Washington's commitment.
Lawmakers from both major political parties in the United States reassured numerous allies that the House of Representatives is set to endorse a supplementary aid package for Ukraine in an effort to prevent the collapse of the Ukrainian Armed Forces according to a report by Politico.
The report cited US lawmakers and foreign officials and noted that the Munich Security Conference was an opportunity to reassure allies that the package would come as soon as March, given that Kiev is losing territory and running short on ammunition.
Simultaneously, legislators pushing for fresh weaponry support to be extended to Kiev are expressing concerns that the former US President, Donald Trump, might disrupt their efforts to secure additional funding, according to the report. The level of trust in both Ukraine's capabilities on the battlefield and in the current US President, Joe Biden, has reached its lowest point in the past two years.
Furthermore, a Ukrainian parliament member voiced concern about Washington's perceived lack of leadership in allocating increased funds and dispatching additional ammunition, including long-range missiles, to Ukraine, as outlined in the report.
Former CIA intel analyst says Ukraine defeat is inevitable
The war in Ukraine is nearing the final stage as the Ukrainian army will not be able to avoid defeat, former CIA intelligence analyst Larry Johnson said.
In a YouTube interview with Dialogue Works, Johnson explained that Ukraine was not being beaten in "only one spot," detailing that they do not have enough air power or manpower to face Russia.
With the impending second anniversary of the war, Ukrainian forces find themselves facing significant challenges along the frontlines. They are grappling with diminished and fatigued ranks, exacerbated by a shortage of artillery shells, which has been further complicated by the delay in receiving a substantial funding package from the United States.
Johnson detailed how the Russian forces are "encircling Ukrainian troops who are in positions where the only way out is to flee on foot."
Ukraine is suffering a "devastating defeat", Johnson explained, and with no US resources or manpower delivered to the front lines to help Ukraine defeat Russia, he believes the war is facing a potential "endgame".
