Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia met in Turkey with Josep Borrell.
Venezuela reaffirmed its willingness to engage in peaceful dialogue with the European Union (EU), on Saturday, during the II Diplomatic Forum of Antalya in Turkey between Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Felix Plasencia, and the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.
During the meeting, Plasencia reiterated Venezuela's demand that unilateral coercive measures affecting the full enjoyment of people's fundamental rights be lifted.
This meeting comes days after the surprise visit of a US delegation to the Venezuelan capital, Caracas.
At the time, President Maduro said of the meeting that "the two flags of the US and Venezuela were there, they looked really pretty, the two of them, united as they should be”.
"A new opportunity has been opened. We had a respectful, cordial, and very diplomatic meeting. It's time for diplomacy, truth, and peace," he added.
It is worth mentioning that Washington has in recent years unilaterally imposed batches of sanctions on Venezuela, most notably targeting its oil sector.
Doubts outshine hope
Analysts say that these are desperate times for the US, and desperate measures are needed, assuming that the US rapprochement is all about Venezuela's affluent oil resources.
On his account, President Maduro constantly accused the US of colonialism, and of trying to meddle in Venezuela's internal affairs.
Borrell added that "the recommendations of the European Union Election Observation Mission constitute a good basis for future elections and democratic reforms," stressing that "events in Ukraine" were also at the center of the talks, without providing further details.
