YouGov Poll forecasts major electoral loss for UK government
According to the survey, the upcoming UK elections will set the biggest loss for the Tories since the 90s.
According to a new poll predicting a drastic windfall for Labour, Britain's Conservative party is expecting a major defeat in the forthcoming general elections and could lose around 180 seats in Parliament.
A YouGov survey of 14,000 respondents published yesterday indicates that the Tories would drop from 349 seats to 169 seats in the Parliament. On the other hand, Labour would take a large majority of 385 seats if the elections were to be held today.
The survey also showed that the seats for Liberal Democrats would rise from the current 15 to 48.
The Tories will need to do more than raise funds to secure a ruling majority, the poll suggests, and David Davis, a senior conservative MP and former minister agrees, as he described the electoral spending as "wasted".
Conservatives do not approve of their own
Statistics published in December showed that Sunak's favourability dipped to a whopping minus 26.5, dropping in over a one percent estimate value in just a month, essentially indicating that 26.5% more conservative party members do not approve of him, according to results from the ConservativeHome website.
Cabinet members also showed hefty discontent with Sunak, the poll revealed.
“Only 17 members of the Cabinet are above a lowly ten points – a record in itself. Morale seems to be at rock bottom and so are ratings – with eight Ministers, one fewer than our record total of nine, in the red. Rishi Sunak’s score is his lowest ever,” read a post on the popular blog.
The Conservative Party PM seems to have a pressured agenda with party activists demanding more tax cuts and reducing immigration to the UK.
The people agree
According to an Opinium poll published in September, 49% of people in the United Kingdom do not approve of the Prime Minister's performance. A staggering 24% only expressed support for Rishi Sunak's performance.
According to the poll results, opposition Labour Party leader Keir Starmer is regarded as considerably better, with 28% approving of his performance and 35% disapproving. He also outperforms Sunak on the topic of who would make a better prime minister, with 27% voting for him and 23% voting for Sunak.
A similar survey by YouGov in June 2023 indicated that 59% of those polled showed no support for Sunak while Starmer was supported by 59% of respondents.
