French Football Federation Rejects PSG Request
The French Football Federation rejects Paris Saint-Germain's request to postpone its next match in the women's League against Lyon, after the club requested to reschedule the match in light of the recent attack on the club's player Kheira Hamraoui.
The French Football Federation rejected Saturday Paris Saint-Germain’s request to postpone its next match in the women’s League against Lyon.
PSG's request comes in light of the recent attack on the club's player Kheira Hamraoui and the suspicions of the alleged involvement of her colleague, Aminata Diallo, in planning the assault.
According to French media, the match will normally take place on Sunday evening.
The club requested to postpone the match against Lyon under the pretext of the psychological conditions of the team players, who feel affected by the mysterious circumstances of the attack on Hamraoui, and the arrest of her colleague Diallo, who was released by the police without charges.
Diallo was detained by police on Wednesday in connection with a vicious street assault on a teammate and fellow national player last week in Paris, her club announced.
She was returning from a dinner organized by PSG with fellow midfielder Hamraoui last Thursday when armed men attacked the pair in their car, hitting Hamraoui on the legs with an iron bar, L'Equipe newspaper reported.
As a result, Hamraoui was absent from the PSG team on Tuesday evening for a Champions League game against Real Madrid, with Diallo playing in her place.
The club added that following the incident, it "has taken all necessary measures to guarantee the health, well-being, and safety of its entire women's team."
Diallo, 26, was held by the attackers during the assault but escaped uninjured, a source at the club told AFP.
The incident reminded observers of the famous 1994 assault on US figure skater Nancy Kerrigan who was hit on her legs by a man with a police baton, in a scheme planned by the ex-husband of her rival Tonya Harding.
