A French Ligue 1 match between Marseille and OGC Nice didn't get a usual ending. The match turned into chaos and was suspended after fans threw a plastic bottle that hit Marseille's attacker Dimitri Payet.

The 34-year-old player reacted back by throwing the bottle into the crowd, which triggered Nice fans to storm the pitch.

Although players from both teams stepped forward to intervene and stewards were trying to control the incident, this did not hold the fans back from invading the pitch. According to RMC, a French radio network, 3 Marseille players were injured in the clashes.

Before the incident, the score turned out 1-0 for Nice until the referee suspended the match in the 76th minute as part of safety measures.

Minutes later, Nice players returned to the pitch, whereas Marseille’s head coach Jorge Sampaoli decided against his players resuming the match, according to RMC.

It is noteworthy that Marseille refused to return to the pitch, and consequently, Nice was the winner with a 3–0 victory, according to Ligue 1 rules.
