'Israel' going 'too far' in war on Gaza, warns New Zealand FM
New Zealand's Foreign Ministry expresses alarm as the war on Gaza nears a year, during which "Israel" "created misery for innocent people."
The Israeli occupation was going "too far" in the ongoing aggression on Gaza, Winston Peters, New Zealand's Foreign Minister, stated on Friday.
Peters expressed alarm as the war on Gaza nears a year, affirming that "Israel" "created misery for innocent people."
In an interview for Radio New Zealand, he also defended his country's support for the Palestine resolution at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, saying, "We have to do the best we can to see that this misery is over."
In response to a question on "Israel's" alleged "right to self-defense," he stated that this argument could not be maintained when "so many innocent people become the victims of your defense," adding that his country has consistently advocated for a "two-state solution".
Australia's abstention from voting on the UN General Assembly resolution drew sharp criticism, with the Jewish Council Australia expressing disappointment and calling for strong international action to deter Israeli war crimes.
In a statement, it accused the country of not aligning with its "commitments to international law and peacebuilding. While the Australian government indicated support for many aspects of the resolution, its failure to vote in favor is a missed opportunity to show stronger, principled leadership."
On Wednesday, the United Nations General Assembly passed a historic resolution calling for an end to "Israel's" occupation of Palestinian areas within a year.
This command will isolate the occupation a few days before world leaders attend the annual UN gathering held in New York on September 26. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address the 193-member assembly, on the same day as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, unless his participation is canceled following the Israeli escalation against Lebanon.
The draft resolution seeks to incorporate the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) advisory opinion deeming "Israel's" occupation of Palestinian territories and settlements illegal, in order to demand the regime's withdrawal.
