Algeria: Arab Summit to include resubmission of Arab Peace Initiative
Algeria's permanent representative to the Arab League says that the participating delegations came to Algeria with a desire to make this Arab summit a success.
Algeria's permanent representative to the Arab League, Abdel Hamid Shabira, confirmed that "the delegations participating in the work of the 31st session of the Arab Summit came to Algeria with a desire to make this Arab occasion a success, which is expected to constitute a major station in the course of joint Arab action."
Shabira said in a press conference, on Wednesday, that the concluding statement of the Algerian summit will include the reintroduction of the Arab peace initiative to resolve the Palestinian cause.
He pointed out that media reports that claims that conditions were placed for the attendance of some countries were baseless, stressing that no condition had been asked of any country attending the summit.
In this context, Al Mayadeen's envoy to Algeria confirmed that Algiers had prevented attempts to wedge external matters into Arab political affairs, adding that Algeria insisted that the summit be a summit of Arab reunification, one to consider Arab affairs and crises exclusively.
Regarding the preparatory meetings for the permanent delegates, the permanent representative of Algeria in the Arab League confirmed that they were "fruitful and characterized by a substantive discussion, as a consensus was reached on the most important issues."
He added, "The Palestinian cause was discussed, in addition to the situation in Libya, Yemen, and Syria, as well as Arab relations in general."
Earlier, in September, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said that "Algeria is ready to host a historic Arab summit that would bring Arabs together and unite their world."
In its preparations for the Arab summit, the Algerian government had called it the Palestine Summit, intending to unite Arab ranks around the Palestinian cause.
