Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian strongly condemned, on Friday, the Israeli aggression on Damascus International Airport, stressing his country's support for the Syrian government and people.

Amir-Abdollahian stressed, during a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Miqdad, that "the Israeli entity's continued attacks on the Syrian infrastructure, including airports, ports and other important and vital centers, is not only a clear violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, but is also a violation of all laws, International and human standards and principles,” condemning the “unacceptable” silence of states, the international community, and regional and international forums, describing it as a “shame” on the international community.

The Iranian minister praised "the tireless work of the Syrian leadership to preserve its sovereignty and heroic stances against terrorism," praising "the victories it has achieved in the face of illegal foreign interference in Syrian internal affairs."

In turn, the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Miqdad, said that the Israelis, through their repeated attacks on his country, are seeking to destabilize the region, in order to cover up their "unstable and fragile" conditions.

Al-Miqdad added that "the Israeli attacks aim to strengthen the remaining terrorist groups, including ISIS and the Al-Nusra Front in Syria," noting that "they will not reach any result," stressing that "these attacks will increase the determination of the Syrian people and their government" against occupation and terrorism.

He stressed that his country "will defend by all legitimate means its right to repel the treacherous Israeli attacks, continue its war on terrorism, and liberate its lands from all terrorists and illegal foreign forces that support them."

The Syrian minister pointed out that "the Israeli aggression comes within the framework of the support that "Israel" provides to its terrorist allies, and because of what the American forces and their tools are doing in the north-east, and the threats made by Turkey to launch attacks on Syrian territory, and the support it provides to terrorist groups in the north" western part of the country.

Earlier in the morning, a Syrian military source said that "the Israeli enemy carried out an air aggression with rockets from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points south of the city of Damascus," stressing that "the Syrian air defense forces confronted the aggression's missiles, and shot down most of them."

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that "Moscow strongly condemns the Israeli air strike on Damascus International Airport." Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that "the continuation of the Israeli bombing of the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, in violation of the basic norms of international law, is absolutely unacceptable."
