Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Lebanon in response to the Israeli occupation's continued violations of the ceasefire agreement. These violations, he emphasized, constitute a clear breach of international law and Security Council Resolution 1701.
During a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Abdelatty underlined the need for the full and non-selective implementation of the resolution by all parties, calling for "Israel's" complete withdrawal from southern Lebanon and an end to all violations of Lebanese sovereignty, including attacks on its territory and airspace.
Abdelatty also necessitated holding all parties accountable to international commitments, stressing that any selective application of Resolution 1701 undermines stability and threatens the fragile balance in the region.
The top Egyptian diplomat also called on the international community to actively support reconstruction efforts in Lebanon. He stressed the need to empower Lebanese state institutions so they can fully carry out their national responsibilities and preserve sovereignty and internal stability.
Egypt’s regional role
The meeting also covered broader regional developments, with particular focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty reviewed Cairo’s ongoing efforts to broker a ceasefire that would secure the release of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners and enable the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged area.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm commitment to supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The discussion concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong relationship between Egypt and Lebanon. Both sides expressed a desire to continue close consultation and coordination at all levels, reinforcing the shared commitment to stability and prosperity in the region.
Attacks on Lebanon continue despite ceasefire
Since the Israeli war on Lebanon ended on November 27, almost one year ago, "Israel" has carried out near-daily attacks on the Lebanese south, targeting civilians, essential infrastructure, and homes.
The Israeli occupation has also attacked Beirut's southern suburb, leaving tens of civilians martyred. In the South, "Israel" continues building outposts, illegally occupying Lebanese lands near the border with occupied Palestine.
Meanwhile, the United States excessively meddles in Lebanese affairs, demanding the demilitarization of Lebanon and the disarmament of the Islamic Resistance, while leaving the violations committed by the Israeli occupation unchecked.
