Iran has confirmed that its Fordow nuclear facility sustained limited damage following recent Israeli attacks, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency on Saturday.
Behrouz Kamalvandi, spokesperson for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, stated: "There has been limited damage to some areas at the Fordow enrichment site."
Kamalvandi clarified that much of the sensitive material and equipment had already been relocated ahead of the strikes, minimizing the impact.
"We had already moved a significant part of the equipment and materials out, and there was no extensive damage, and there are no contamination concerns," he added.
The Fordow site, one of Iran’s most fortified nuclear facilities, has been a key focus in previous Israeli operations targeting the country’s nuclear infrastructure.
Continued Israeli aggression on Iran
The statement comes after Iranian media reported that Israeli aircraft struck Qom province, south of Tehran, hitting two above-ground locations near the Fordow nuclear facility, as part of the aggression on Iran since early on Friday.
Iranian state media reported that the country's air defense systems were engaged and successfully intercepted Israeli missiles near southern Tehran, while in Qom, Iranian air defense systems engaged hostile targets, and an Israeli drone was shot down near the Fordow facility, according to Iran's Press TV.
Earlier on Friday, the Israeli occupation forces targeted several Iranian provinces, launching an attack on the Natanz nuclear facility in Esfahan. Meanwhile, A fire broke out at Tabriz Airport in northwestern Iran as a result of the Israeli aggression, and Iranian state television reported hearing loud explosions.
In turn, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stark warning on June 13, stating that "Israel has crossed every red line" through its aggressive actions against Iran, and he characterized the recent Israeli attacks on Iran as nothing short of "a declaration of war."
In a letter addressed to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called for an emergency meeting to address what he described as "Israel’s" military aggression against Iran, emphasizing that "the matter must be dealt with immediately."
