Iran has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council following early morning Israeli airstrikes that struck nuclear facilities, military installations, and civilian areas across the country.
Israeli aggression on Iran early Friday resulted in injuries to at least 50 people, AFP reported, citing Iranian state media. The aggression led to extensive damage and widespread concern, particularly due to the high number of civilian casualties.

In a formal letter submitted to the Council, the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations condemned the attacks and asserted that “Iran has a legitimate right to defend itself and respond to the Israeli aggression.” The letter cited multiple targets hit during the assault, including sensitive nuclear and military sites, as well as residential zones.
Tehran urged the UNSC to immediately convene an emergency session to condemn what it described as blatant aggression on nuclear infrastructure and the targeted killing of Iranian military officials.

The letter went on to characterize the aggression as a turning point in the struggle, declaring that “the Israeli entity's aggression amounted to a declaration of war against Iran.” Iran also reaffirmed that it “reserves its right to legitimate defense.”
Greece to convene National Security Council over Middle East tensions
In a separate context, Greece said it will hold a meeting of its National Security Council later on Friday to assess the unfolding situation in the Middle East, according to a statement released by the office of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The statement noted that “Greece will convene its national security council later on Friday to discuss the latest developments in the Middle East.”
The announcement comes as regional tensions escalate following an Israeli aggression on Iranian territory and growing fears of broader war in the region.
Following the Israeli aggression on Iran, governments across the globe are voicing concern over the potential for wider regional destabilization.
Israeli aggression on Iran
At dawn on Friday, the Israeli occupation military confirmed the launch of a broad aerial offensive targeting Iran’s nuclear program and residential areas and assassinating several military officials and nuclear scientists. In an official statement, the occupation military said it carried out a "precise, preemptive strike" on Iran, "with the goal of damaging Iran’s nuclear program."
The Israeli Air Force struck dozens of sites across Iran, including facilities linked to its nuclear program and other military infrastructure, the military stated. Additionally, strikes targeted residential areas across the country.
The operation was codenamed "Rising Lion".
