Iran warns of rising terror threats in Syria, urges regional action
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei warns of renewed terrorist activity in Syria, part of a US-Israeli scheme threatening the progress made through the Astana process.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei Hamaneh raised alarms on Thursday over the resurgence of Takfiri terrorist groups in Syria, urging decisive and coordinated regional efforts to prevent the spread of terrorism.
In a statement on Thursday, Baghaei strongly condemned recent terrorist activities, operations orchestrated as part of a broader destabilization plan led by the United States and the Israeli regime.
Warning Against Destabilization
"The movements of terrorist groups in Syria over the past two days are part of a dangerous conspiracy to destabilize the West Asian region," Baghaei Hamaneh said, stressing the importance of vigilance and cooperation among Syria's neighbors to counteract these threats effectively.
The spokesperson pointed to existing agreements under the Astana process—an initiative led by Iran, Turkey, and Russia—which designated areas such as Aleppo and Idlib as de-escalation zones. He criticized the recent attacks by terrorist groups in these zones, calling them gross violations of the agreements and a serious threat to the progress made through the Astana process.
Call for Global Responsibility
Baghaei reminded the international community of its collective responsibility to combat terrorism and warned that delays in addressing the growing threats in Syria could reverse years of counterterrorism achievements.
The Iranian official called on regional states to increase vigilance and work closely to thwart what he described as a dangerous conspiracy. He emphasized that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility that requires unity among Syria's neighbors and broader international support.

This comes amid escalating tensions in Syria, where terrorist groups have intensified their activities, threatening the fragile stability achieved through years of negotiation and military action.
Earlier today, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced that the Syrian Armed Forces countered a major terrorist attack by Jabhat al-Nusra in Aleppo and Idlib, inflicting significant losses on the attackers' personnel and equipment.
The attack, a de facto violation of the de-escalation agreement, targeted villages, settlements, and military positions, prompting ongoing counterattacks by Syrian and allied forces.
Meanwhile, Al Mayadeen reported armed groups west of Aleppo using advanced drones reportedly acquired from Kiev's intelligence services.
Russian and Syrian forces have also destroyed al-Nusra command centers in Idlib, continuing joint operations to neutralize terrorist threats across the region.
