Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Sunday strongly condemned "Israel’s" repeated attacks on Lebanon, as he hosted Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on his first official visit to Baghdad since taking office.
Despite a ceasefire brokered in November 2024 to end over a year of exchange of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli occupation, including a full-scale war on Lebanon, Israeli aggression on the country continued.
At a joint press conference, al-Sudani denounced "repeated Israeli attacks against Lebanon's sovereignty," calling them a “violation of international law.” He also urged full implementation of a 2006 UN Security Council resolution that ended that year’s Israeli war on Lebanon
In addition to security concerns, the leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in sectors such as energy, telecommunications, and commerce.
Iraq has maintained strong ties with Lebanon and hosted thousands of displaced Lebanese during the war. Since 2021, gas-rich Iraq has supplied Lebanon with fuel to power its struggling energy sector, and last month, Beirut announced it was expecting a delivery of 320,000 tons of Iraqi wheat.
President Aoun, who took office in January, thanked Iraq for “all the support and donations” during his visit, which also included a meeting with Iraqi President Abdel Latif Rashid.
Two killed, another wounded in Israeli strikes on South Lebanon
One person was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting his motorcycle in the town of Arnoun, in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported on Sunday.
The ministry also announced that one person was injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a car in Beit Lif, Bint Jbeil district, in the south.
Later in the day, in yet another flagrant violation, an Israeli airstrike targeted a car on the Debel road in the Bint Jbeil district, resulting in the martyrdom of a Lebanese citizen; the third casualty on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
Amid these ceasefire violations, an Israeli force advanced from the al-Abbad outpost and opened fire near a civilian and his wife as they inspected their home in the eastern neighborhood of the southern town of Houla, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported.
Additionally, an Israeli airstrike killed one civilian in his vehicle early Saturday morning in Deir al-Zahrani in southern Lebanon.
'Israel' kills Lebanese citizens
Two individuals were martyred and a third was injured on Thursday following a series of assaults carried out by the Israeli occupation on towns across southern Lebanon, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent.
One martyr was shot dead by Israeli occupation forces in the town of Kfar Kila, while a second, a municipal worker from Nabatieh al-Fawqa, was killed in a drone strike that targeted the outskirts of the town.
Additionally, a civilian was wounded in the town of Beit Lif in the Bint Jbeil district after an Israeli reconnaissance drone dropped a stun grenade in the area.
Elsewhere, Israeli artillery bombarded the outskirts of al-Wazzani and al-Salhani, located between Ramya and Beit Lif, following another stun grenade dropped by a drone over Ramya’s airspace.
On Wednesday, an Israeli occupation forces infantry unit infiltrated Lebanese territory late Wednesday night, penetrating the Bir Shuaib area in the town of Blida in southern Lebanon.
The incursion force reportedly included two tanks, a bulldozer, and several infantry troops, and it advanced beyond the so-called "technical fence", a de facto separation line used by the Israeli occupation.
In response, a unit of the Lebanese Army swiftly deployed to the eastern perimeter of Blida, where the incursion occurred, in a move aimed at containing the violation and asserting Lebanese territorial sovereignty.
This latest breach follows a similar incident on Monday night, when an Israeli infantry force infiltrated residential areas in the southern town of Mays al-Jabal, stationing between civilian homes before withdrawing later under pressure.
