An Israeli occupation court refused on Thursday to release Palestinian Islamic Jihad official Bassam Al-Saadi under the pretext of wanting to continue legal proceedings against him.

"The Zionist court of Ofer decided to refuge releasing prisoner Sheikh Bassam Ragheb Al-Saadi, the PIJ official, under false pretexts. It decided to continue imprisoning him and set 13/09/2022 as a date to look into his case," the Muhjat Al-Quds prisoners affairs foundation said in a press release.

On Sunday, the Israeli occupation court postponed Al-Saadi's trial until the end of the coming week.

This comes after the Palestinian Prisoners Information Office in the Israeli occupation prisons announced on Thursday that an occupation court had extended the detention of Bassam Al-Saadi till next Sunday in order "to complete judicial procedures."

The office pointed out in a statement that the occupation "filed a case against the leader of the Islamic Jihad movement in Jenin, Bassam Al-Saadi, on charges of belonging to an illegal organization, providing services to it, and inciting violence."

Last Sunday, the Shin Bet security service ended the investigation of the PIJ leader, Bassam Al-Saadi, while the "Ofer" Military Court decided to extend his detention to Thursday, August 25.

On August 16, the occupation's Ofer Court extended Al-Saadi's detention for another 6 days under the pretext of carrying out "further investigation" after a previous extension was effected on August 11. When he first appeared after his arrest, Al-Saadi said what he had been subjected to was an "arbitrary arrest".

On the 1st of August, special units of the Israeli occupation stormed Al-Saadi's house and arrested him and his brother-in-law Ashraf Al-Jada in his home in Jenin camp after they were assaulted and taken to an unknown destination.

Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin reported that Al-Saadi's wife was later taken to the ER after occupation forces beat her while they arrested her husband.

Al-Saadi's name was included in an Egypt-brokered ceasefire agreement on the evening of Sunday, August 7, ending a 3-day-long Israeli aggression on the Gaza strip, which targeted civilians and PIJ-controlled areas. The Israeli aggression resulted in the death of 46 Palestinians and the injury of about 400 others.
