"Israel" transfers Awawdeh to hospital in response to PIJ conditions
The PIJ movement confirms prisoner Khalil Awawdeh was transferred to hospital and that his family will be allowed to visit him.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) official Anwar Abu Taha confirmed Tuesday that hunger-striking prisoner Khalil Awawdeh was transferred to the hospital, and that the prisoner's family will be allowed to visit him as a prelude to ending his suffering.
The official said that a delegation from the International Red Cross visited the two prisoners, Bassam Al-Saadi and Khalil Awawdeh.
An informed source told Al Mayadeen that the Israeli occupation authorities transferred Awawdeh, who has been on a hunger strike for 149 days, to a hospital for follow-up treatment.
The source confirmed that the Israeli occupation responded to the conditions of the PIJ, as Awawdeh was transferred to receive treatment outside the prison after contact between the Egyptian side and the occupation.
The source mentioned that the Egyptian side made contact with a senior PIJ official and conveyed a message of reassurance regarding Cairo’s efforts to implement the movement's demands regarding prisoners Al-Saadi and Awawdeh.
Regarding the ceasefire agreement, the informed source denied that the Israeli occupation had evaded the Egyptian-mediated agreement signed with the PIJ, adding that during the past hours, the first conditions of the agreement have been implemented, which is to transfer Awawdeh to receive treatment in a hospital outside the prison in preparation for his release.
The source told Al Mayadeen that Cairo is committed to what it pledged to the PIJ leadership after the movement responded to Egypt's efforts and ceased fire on the scheduled date, noting that the rest of the terms of the ceasefire agreement will take place in succession and work will be done to release PIJ official Bassam Al-Saadi.
Awawdeh's condition is delicate & critical
On his part, the PIJ representative in the Prisoners Committee, Yasser Mezher, confirmed that prisoner Awawdeh was transferred to the hospital for treatment before his expected release, pointing out that the health condition of the prisoner Khalil Awawdeh is delicate and critical.
Mezher mentioned that PIJ official Bassam Al-Saadi's health condition is difficult after the Israeli occupation forces beat him on his head.
PIJ Secretary-General Ziad Al-Nakhala had said that the Israeli occupation was hard at work toward reaching a ceasefire agreement and that the PIJ was the side that stipulated the release of Al-Saadi and Awawdeh.
"If the enemy does not abide by our conditions, we will consider the agreement void and we will resume fighting again," Al-Nakhala warned.
It is noteworthy that the armistice agreement between "Israel" and the PIJ movement entered into force with Egyptian mediation, starting at 11:30 pm on Sunday.
This comes after Al Mayadeen private sources confirmed that an agreement had been reached on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, with the fulfillment of the PIJ's demands in full.
On August 5, the Israeli occupation launched an aggression on the Gaza Strip, and Al-Quds Brigades announced that Tayseer Al-Jaabari, a military commander in the northern Gaza Strip, had been martyred.
Consequently, Al-Quds Brigades launched an operation in response to the Israeli occupation's aggression on the Gaza Strip, by launching salvoes of rockets toward the occupied Palestinian territories.
