The Israeli occupation forces launched an airstrike that targeted a residential building in a civilian neighborhood in the Southern Suburb of Beirut.
The airstrike marks a major escalation in "Israel's" airstrikes, following a series of bombings across Lebanon over the past few days.
In a clear escalation and a blatant violation of the so-called ceasefire agreement with #Lebanon, and after days of intense Israeli aggression across South Lebanon, the Israeli occupation has now targeted a residential apartment in #Beirut’s Southern Suburb on Al-Areed Street. pic.twitter.com/ZyfjNtYFiY

The airstrike targeted the 4th and 5th stories of a 10-storey building the al-Areed street in Haret Hreik, an area in the Southern Suburb that was deeply impacted during the war, which ended with the signing of a ceasefire in November 2024. "Israel" has since committed upwards of 5,000 violations of the ceasefire and killed over 200 Lebanese civilians.
The Israeli occupation forces released a statement saying they conducted an airstrike against a "prominent" Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 5 people were martyred and another 28 were injured in the attack, in a final toll.
Israeli media cited political sources as saying that "Israel" had informed the United States of its plans before the attack. Further reports indicated that the US had been informed days ago that "Israel" was planning to escalate its aggression on Lebanon.
Ammar: Resistance will respond at appropriate time
Lebanese MP Ali Ammar accused "Israel" of violating the Washington-backed ceasefire through continued strikes across Lebanon. Ammar, who represents the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc and the Baabda district where Beirut's Southern Suburb is located, visited the attack site to assess the damage.
"Any attack on Lebanon is a violation of red lines. This aggression targets Lebanon's dignity, sovereignty, and the security of its citizens," he said.
The MP further indicated that the Resistance will respond at the appropriate time, explaining that "the Resistance is dealing with utmost wisdom and patience, and will confront this enemy at the appropriate time. We are in a full-fledged battle with the enemy, and we will set the time [for a response]."
Ammar also slammed domestic voices who enable Israeli actions, stating that "the enemy is emboldened to commit its aggression by voices within Lebanon that have turned themselves into tools that support its aggression."
Drawing on the Palestinian experience, he expressed skepticism about peace prospects with "an enemy that blatantly declares its intent to expand."

Escalation follows deadly strikes
Israeli occupation forces escalated their aggression on Lebanon on Saturday with a series of airstrikes, targeting areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, in a continued violation of the ceasefire agreement.
A series of strikes hit highland areas surrounding the towns of Tarayya and Shmestar in the Bekaa region, eastern Lebanon.
In the south, Al Mayadeen's correspondent stated that Israeli warplanes carried out raids on the Jabal al-Rafee area, the outskirts of the town of Sojod, and the al-Naqra valley near the town of Kfar Hamam.
According to our correspondent, airstrikes also targeted wooded highlands in Iqlim al-Tuffah, al-Jarmaq, al-Mahmoudiya, and Kfar Hamam in successive waves. The al-Jabbour area also came under Israeli attacks.
Concurrently, Israeli media reported that its Air Force was conducting a wave of airstrikes in the Bekaa and Nabatieh regions.
