The 18-year-old Palestinian youth Majdi Ghabayen on Sunday evening succumbed to wounds he had sustained after an explosion that rocked the Malka refugee camp, east of Gaza City, several days ago.
In mid-September, the Gaza Ministry of Health announced that five Palestinians were killed and 25 individuals were wounded, with some in critical condition, as a result of the explosion.
According to a statement from the Revolutionary Youth, a group of engineering unit fighters approached the entrance of the Malka area to plant a heavy-caliber explosive device that would be used against Israeli occupation forces.
However, the occupation forces ambushed the unit's fighters and opened fire on their location while they were attempting to plant the device. The fighters were unable to withdraw and the device detonated, the statement explained, holding the Israeli occupation responsible for the tragic incident.
At the time, confrontations broke out between Palestinian youths and Israeli occupation forces near the Malka military site. During the confrontations, occupation soldiers fired live ammunition and gas canisters at the Palestinian youths.
