Syria appoints new representative to Arab League

Damascus names its former UN delegate as a representative to the Arab organization.

Newly assigned Syria's representative to the Arab League Hussam Edin Aala (SANA)
Syria announced on Tuesday the appointment of Hussam Edin Aala as its representative to the Arab League.
Last February, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad issued a decree appointing Ambassador Aala as Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs and International Organizations.
The newly assigned delegate held a series of senior diplomatic positions in recent years.
He served as a diplomat in his country's mission to the United Nations, as Syria's ambassador to Spain, and as the former director of the office of Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad.

Despite opposition from Western countries, Arab foreign ministers announced on May 7 Syria’s return to the Arab League during an emergency meeting that took place in the Egyptian capital ahead of the Arab League Summit in Saudi Arabia.
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad led his country's delegation to the summit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 19, almost 12 years after relations between Damascus and most Arab countries were strained after the beginning of the war on Syrian.
