The Yemeni Foreign Ministry has strongly rejected the claims made by UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg during his briefing to the UN Security Council on Monday, according to the Yemeni news agency SABA on Tuesday.
In its statement, the Foreign Ministry said that the UN envoy's recent briefing to the Security Council failed, as previous ones have, to address the root causes of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, namely, the decade-long aggression and siege imposed on the country.
It additionally noted that the briefing overlooked the Israeli aggression against Yemen, the hostile practices conducted by the United States toward the Yemeni people, and the politicization of humanitarian aid.
It issued a sharp critique of the UN envoy's recent briefing, stating it failed to identify the true obstacle to the peace process. The Ministry specifically accused the United States of hindering the implementation of the agreed-upon roadmap, a move it asserts was in retaliation for Yemen's continued support for Gaza.
Furthermore, the Ministry criticized Grunberg for ignoring the destabilizing unilateral actions taken by mercenary forces within the country, emphasizing that these measures have had severe negative consequences for the Yemeni people, significantly exacerbating their suffering.
In this context, it accused the UN envoy of consistently overstepping his mandate by prioritizing the issue of spies and agents detained by Yemeni authorities, arguing that this focus contradicts his role as a neutral mediator tasked with facilitating peace through goodwill efforts.
The Ministry contended that the primary obstacles to peace and humanitarian aid are not the legal actions taken against espionage cells threatening national security, but instead the ongoing aggression and siege against Yemen.
The statement called on UN Special Envoy Hans Grundberg to exert genuine efforts to resume the peace process in the coming period, affirming Yemen's commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace while simultaneously stating its full readiness to defend the nation.
The Foreign Ministry welcomed statements from some nations condemning the recent aggression against Yemen, which included attacks on government officials and civilian sites in Sanaa and al-Jawf.
