Yemen says attacked British destroyer in Red Sea

The Yemeni Armed Forces announced ballistic missile strikes on a British destroyer amid ongoing escalation in support of Palestine.

The Yemeni Armed Forces launched ballistic missiles at a British naval destroyer in the Red Sea, Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree announced Sunday in a press briefing.

According to Brigadier General Saree, the missile forces successfully targeted the British attacked HMS Diamond with several ballistic missiles.

The operation, the spokesperson underlined, was in retaliation for the recent massacre at the Nuseirat refugee camp in Gaza and as a stand against the grave injustices faced by the Palestinian people.

Saree further revealed that two additional foreign ships were targeted in the operation. Yemen had warned British, American, and Israeli-bound ships not to pass through the bodies of water it overlooks, lest they would come under attack, all in support of occupied Palestine.

The spokesperson further revealed that two additional ships linked to the adversary were targeted in the operation. A fire was reported on the Norderney, and the MSC Tavvishi sustained a direct hit. Both incidents occurred during coordinated operations in the Red Sea.

"These vessels were in violation of the ban on accessing the ports of occupied Palestine," said Brigadier General Saree. He explained that the operations involved the combined efforts of Yemen’s naval forces, missile units, and drone force, utilizing maritime and ballistic missiles along with drones.

Saree emphasized Yemen's continued commitment to defending the Palestinian cause, stating, "We will persist in our religious and moral duty towards the Palestinian people. Our operations will not cease until the aggression stops and the blockade is lifted."

This comes after it was reported by two UK maritime organizations on Sunday that two vessels were set ablaze by projectiles near Aden, Yemen.

According to Ambrey, a British security firm, a general cargo ship flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda was hit by a missile approximately 83 nautical miles southeast of Aden, resulting in a fire that was subsequently brought under control.

Prior to this, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) had been informed by a ship captain about an incident occurring 80 nautical miles southeast of Aden.

"The ship was heading southwest along the Gulf of Aden at a speed of 8.2 knots when the forward station was struck by a missile. A fire started but was neutralized," Ambrey said in an advisory note.

 Additionally, both Ambrey and UKMTO confirmed receiving a report regarding another incident located 70 nautical miles southwest of Aden.

"The master reports that the vessel was hit by an unknown projectile on the aft section, which resulted in a fire. Damage control is underway," UKMTO said in an advisory note.

Joint operation with Iraq

On Thursday, the Yemeni Armed Forces (YAF) revealed carrying out two joint operations with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, marking the first time two factions of the Axis of Resistance publicly conducted coordinated strikes targeting the Israeli occupation entity.

But that was not the only top-tier part of the operations, which came after the YAF announced striking and hitting the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower last week, deployed, along with its strike group, almost nine months ago to protect "Israel" from the Yemeni naval blockade.

The spokesperson of the YAF, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that the two operations, which were carried out with several drones, targeted three ships. In the first, two vessels that were transporting weapons to the occupation and docked in the port of Haifa came under attack.

The second operation targeted a third vessel that violated the ban imposed by the Yemeni Armed Forces on vessels heading to Haifa.

He confirmed that the Haifa operations came in response to the Israeli massacres in Rafah, adding that accurate hits were achieved.

He concluded the statement by vowing the occupation entity to "expect more joint operations" in the coming period until the war on Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.

The Brigadier General also called on the "Arab armies to participate in the operations" in support of the Palestinian Resistance, as part of their "religious and humanitarian duty toward the Palestinian people."
