Elon Musk has revealed that his artificial intelligence company, xAI, will release an early beta version of Grokipedia, a rewritten and reimagined alternative to Wikipedia, within the next two weeks.
The billionaire entrepreneur announced the update on X (formerly Twitter), writing that "Version 0.1 early beta of Grokipedia will be published in 2 weeks."

In late September, Musk stated that xAI plans to rebuild Wikipedia using sources that the platform currently bans or excludes. The project, named Grokipedia, will be developed as an AI-driven encyclopedia aiming to correct what Musk perceives as ideological bias within Wikipedia.
He described Grokipedia as a "massive improvement over Wikipedia," promising that the platform will be fully open-source and accessible to the public. According to Musk, this initiative will enhance information transparency while challenging existing norms of digital knowledge management.
Musk's long history of criticizing Wikipedia
Musk’s friction with Wikipedia dates back several years. His criticisms intensified after the platform referenced a gesture he made during Donald Trump's inauguration, which some compared to a Nazi salute. Musk has often accused Wikipedia of harboring a liberal bias, referring to it derisively as "Wokepedia."
In early September, he joined calls to halt funding for Wikipedia after it labeled conservative activist Charlie Kirk a "white nationalist." Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA and a notable figure in US conservative politics, was assassinated in September 2025. The controversy surrounding his page reignited debates over editorial neutrality and ideological bias on Wikipedia.
Inside the vision for Grokipedia
Musk's Grokipedia project is both a technological and ideological statement. The platform will leverage Grok's analytical capabilities to review and rewrite Wikipedia entries, identifying inaccuracies or potential bias. It will also incorporate additional sources previously rejected by Wikipedia's editorial standards.
Musk has pledged to make Grokipedia an open-access knowledge base, ensuring free use, modification, and redistribution by the public. The approach mirrors Wikipedia's collaborative model but seeks to add greater transparency in source selection and editorial oversight.
Beyond ideological disputes, Grokipedia signals Musk's deeper competition with major technology firms. xAI is currently involved in legal battles with Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of anticompetitive behavior that limits Grok's visibility across app stores.
By creating its own knowledge ecosystem, xAI aims to gain control over the data that trains its AI systems, reducing reliance on external platforms that Musk claims impose selective censorship.
However, academic studies on Wikipedia's bias suggest a more nuanced reality. Researchers note that while individual articles may reflect editors' perspectives, the platform overall maintains relatively balanced coverage compared to traditional encyclopedias.
