PIJ Secretary-General Ziyad al-Nakhalah stated, on Sunday, that the movement will not attend the meeting of the secretaries-general in Cairo "before the release of our brothers from the Palestinian authority's prisons."

Earlier, on July 11, 2023, al-Nakhalah confirmed that the arrests carried out by the authority against the members of the Islamic Jihad Movement in the occupied West Bank would "cause the upcoming meeting of the secretaries-general to fail."

Earlier reports from Al Mayadeen indicated that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had sent similar official invitations to the leaders of the factions to participate in the forthcoming meeting.

Abbas had called for the meeting following the Israeli brutal aggression on Jenin city and its camp, which lasted for two days and resulted in the martyrdom of 13 Palestinians and the injury of more than 100.

Al-Nakhalah's statements come at the same time as the authority's policy to continue its arrest of Resistance fighters Murad Waleed Malaisha (34 years old) and Mohammad Waleed Brahma (37 years old) from Jenin, despite the court's decision to release them immediately without any conditions.

The authority had arrested Malaisha and Brahma on July 3rd while they were heading to Jenin camp to participate in confronting the occupation's aggression.

The authority also arrested Resistance fighters from the town of Ya'bad, namely, Eid Mohammad Hammamra (28 years old), Mohammad Saleem Alawna (41 years old), Mohammad Fayez Malaisha (42 years old), Mu'min Adnan Fashafsheh (20 years old), and Imad Mohammad Khleileh (25 years old), where they are engaged in an open hunger strike in protest against their detention.
