Intl. community must not remain silent on Israeli crimes: Gharibabadi
The Israeli aggression against Palestinians is equivalent to a “systematic and deliberate campaign” of war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide, and violates human rights and international humanitarian law, Iran's deputy foreign minsiter said.
The international community must not stand idly amid the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinians, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs said, urging for decisive and immediate action against the occupation.
Kazem Gharibabadi made these statements during the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in New York on Monday, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The diplomat said that the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank is equivalent to a “systematic and deliberate campaign” of war crimes, crimes against humanity, ethnic cleansing and genocide, and violates human rights and international humanitarian law.
“The unlimited impunity for the Israeli regime is a threat that can cause a greater human catastrophe in the occupied territories,” Gharibabadi added.
"Every moment of inaction by the international community means the continuation of the massacre of innocent Palestinian civilians. The world cannot remain silent in the face of these crimes; a swift and decisive action is not only expected, but also a moral and human obligation," he asserted.
'Israel's' mass murder in Lebanon
Gharibabadi also commented on the escalating Israeli aggression in Lebanon after the explosion of telecommunications devices occurred last week.
He described the violent terror attack as testament to the occupation's absolute disregard for human life and international law.
"Now is the time for a decisive action. The innocent are calling for justice; history will judge those who act and those who turn a blind eye [to crimes],” he stated.
“The killing machine of the Israeli regime must stop in Gaza, Rafah and throughout West Asia. The international community must persistently pursue the trial of all those who are ordering and perpetrating [the crimes] and are complicit with the terrorist regime.”
Gharibabadi remarked that the underlying cause of today's war stems from more than seven decades of occupation and the establishment of a fraudulent regime in Palestinian land. He emphasized that the oppressed nation of Palestine possesses both the legal and undeniable right to resist "Israel's" occupation.
Pezeshkian says Israeli occupation warmongering, seeking broader war
Iranian President Pezeshkian accused "Israel" of pursuing a regional conflict on Monday as he urged the West to hold talks on sensitive issues.
President Masoud Pezeshkian was visiting the United Nations as "Israel" escalated its strikes on Lebanon.
Pezeshkian told a roundtable of journalists in New York that "Israel" is attempting to provoke a larger war, explaining, "We know more than anyone else that if a larger war were to erupt in the Middle East, it will not benefit anyone throughout the world. It is Israel that seeks to create this wider conflict."
Pezeshkian alluded to "Israel's" assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and expressed that the West urged Iran not to respond, stressing, "We tried to not respond. They kept telling us we are within reach of peace, perhaps in a week or so."
"But we never reached that elusive peace. Every day Israel is committing more atrocities and killing more and more people -- old, young, men, women, children, hospitals, other facilities," Pezeshkian stressed.
"We always keep hearing, well, Hezbollah fired a rocket. If Hezbollah didn't even do that minimum, who would defend them?" he stated. "We keep being labeled as the perpetrators of insecurity. But look at the situation for where it is."
Pezeshkian accused Western powers of having double standards, claiming that violence "by one side is legitimate self-defense but it's terrorism and murder by the other."
