Iran accuses Ukraine of supporting armed groups in West Asia
He denounced these actions as a clear violation of international obligations aimed at countering terrorism.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday on Friday called on Ukraine to immediately cease its support for terrorism in the West Asia region, accusing Ukrainian officials of enabling instability and violating international law.
The accusations were issued by Mojtaba Damirchiloo, Assistant to the Iranian Foreign Minister and Director General of the Eurasia Department, during a statement reported by Mehr news agency.
Illegal arms trade, terrorism allegations
Damirchiloo referred to reports suggesting that Ukrainian officials partook in the illegal trade of US-supplied weapons, which he says "have been funneled to terrorist groups operating in Syria."
He denounced these actions as a "clear violation of international obligations aimed at countering terrorism."
Highlighting the threat posed by armed groups designated as terrorists by the UN Security Council, he described Ukraine's use of such groups to destabilize the region as unethical and contrary to international principles.
The Iranian diplomat also responded to repeated accusations from Kiev that Tehran had provided drones and other military aid to Russia in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
Calling these allegations baseless, he reiterated Iran's firm position, that the country has opposed the war from its onset and advocated for dialogue as the only solution.
Damirchiloo urged Ukraine to align its actions with international norms, particularly its commitments to counter-terrorism, and to avoid destabilizing actions in the West Asia region.
He warned that "alliances with terrorist groups ultimately lead to long-term consequences," including increased insecurity for those who sponsor such activities.

Ukrainian fingerprints clear in resurgence in Syria
The recent escalation in Syria shows signs of Ukrainian involvement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated during a press briefing in Moscow on Wednesday.
"We resolutely condemn this attack spearheaded by the individuals recognized as terrorists by the United Nations Security Council," Zakharova stated, adding, "We emphasize a clear Ukrainian influence in the ranks of foreign militants, including those from the post-Soviet space."
Additionally, Zakharova asserted that Russia stands with Syria's leadership and people, reaffirming its support for the country's sovereignty and unity while backing efforts to combat terrorism and restore order.
Significantly, the spokeswoman also mentioned that the guarantors of the Astana process continue to maintain communication in light of the recent developments in Syria.
