Palestinian prisoner Awawdeh's lawyer shocked to see him
Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawdeh's lawyer tells Al Mayadeen about the prisoner's latest condition and confirms he cannot recognize his family members.
Lawyer Ahlam Haddad defending Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawdeh who has been on hunger strike for about 160 days, confirmed in an interview with Al Mayadeen today, Friday, that she was "shocked" when she saw prisoner Awawdeh.
Haddad said, "I was shocked when I saw prisoner Awawdeh because of his extreme weakness," explaining that he "is suffering from severe weight loss, is unable to speak, and does not remember his family members."
The lawyer confirmed that "there is a real danger to the life of the prisoner."

Dalal Awawdeh, the wife of prisoner Khalil Awawdeh, confirmed yesterday in an interview with Al Mayadeen, that "there is a court session scheduled for next Sunday, but the prisoner's health condition is intolerable."
Awawdeh explained to Al Mayadeen that his family "has been forbidden from visiting Khalil for about 8 months," stressing that "the prisoner is now unable to speak or move."
She also revealed that his weight "has become less than 35 kilograms, and there is fear for his life," indicating that he "suffers from severe weakness and an almost impossibility to see."
Human rights organizations have also confirmed that the prisoner Awawdeh "is at risk of martyrdom at any moment, in light of the occupation's refusal to respond to his demands to end his administrative detention, despite the seriousness of his health condition."
The Media Advisor for the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Commission, Hassan Abed Rabbo, said yesterday that "the Ofer Court decided to allow the lawyer of the hunger striker Khalil Awawdeh to visit him urgently today, accompanied by a specialized doctor, to examine him and prepare a medical report on his health condition, to be submitted to the court," which will consider his appeal next Sunday.
Prisoner Awawdeh is married and is a father of four girls. He spent 12 years in the occupation prisons, including 5 years in administrative detention. The last time he was released was on June 30, 2016.
He began a hunger strike on March 3 to protest his repetitive administrative detention, and his hunger strike continued for 111 days until authorities started to respond to his demands. His strike was suspended for a week only before he resumed it on July 5 after the prison administration evaded a solution to his case and renewed his administrative detention for four months.
On Wednesday, an Israeli occupation court held an unplanned court session for Awawdeh due to his deteriorating health condition. He was still in the Ramleh prison, however, without being transferred to a hospital.
The freedom of Awawdeh was one of the clauses of the Egyptian-mediated ceasefire between Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the Israeli occupation, which took place earlier this week after several days of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of Palestinian civilians and wounding hundreds of others.
The head of the political department in the Islamic Jihad Movement, Muhammad Al-Hindi, said on August 7 that "a formula for the Egyptian declaration of the truce agreement has been reached, and it includes Egypt's commitment to work for the release of the two prisoners, Khalil Awawdeh and Bassam Al-Saadi."
