Ministers call for non-proliferation and return to diplomacy
The joint declaration highlighted the “necessity of refraining from targeting nuclear facilities that are under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” noting that such actions represent a “blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.”
The ministers urged strict adherence to IAEA safeguards and UN Security Council resolutions.
In a broader appeal for Middle East nuclear disarmament, the ministers reiterated the importance of “ridding the region of nuclear weapons and all other weapons of mass destruction,” and called for universal commitment to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
The statement stressed that diplomacy, dialogue, and the principle of good neighborliness are “the only viable way” to resolve crises in the region, affirming that “the current crisis cannot be resolved through military means.”
Statement emphasizes maritime security and adherence to international law
The joint communique also underlined “the importance of upholding the freedom of navigation in international waterways,” warning against actions that could undermine maritime security.
The ministers called for respect for international law and the UN Charter, urging all parties to avoid practices that violate these foundational principles.
The signatories firmly rejected the Israeli occupation's attacks on Iran, denouncing “any practices that constitute violations of international law and the UN Charter.”
The statement concluded by emphasizing “the importance of de-escalation, leading to a ceasefire and comprehensive calm.”
