A senior Iranian Army commander praised the nation for demonstrating “exceptional unity” during the unprovoked Israeli-US aggression against the country, stressing that the people’s solidarity played a decisive role in defeating the enemy.
Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, deputy chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination, made the remarks during an event commemorating 8,000 martyrs from Gilan Province in the city of Rasht on Saturday.
He said the Iranian nation was behind the country’s victory in the June aggression, noting that with its people, Iran will never be defeated by any enemy.
“Since the [1979 Islamic] Revolution, through the sacred defense [against the 1980s’ Iraqi-imposed war] and the 12-day war, our nation has shown exceptional unity and solidarity,” he said.
Sayyari stressed that during the war, “the prime minister of the fake Zionist regime [Benjamin Netanyahu] repeatedly called on our people to take to the streets, but not a single person paid heed to those calls. Instead, our national unity and cohesion grew even stronger.”
National unity as the shield of victory
Iranian officials across the board have emphasized that unity was the central element behind Iran’s declared victory in the 12-day confrontation.
Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei had said that “the steel shield of unity among the people, officials, and armed forces must remain unbroken.” He stressed that Iran’s adversaries have learned “through resistance, national unity, and enduring harsh military defeats that neither the Iranian people nor the Islamic Republic can be forced to bow through war.”
Military leaders reinforced this message. Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, said “Israel and the United States were handed a defeat due to the strength of the Iranian people and armed forces.” Defense Minister Amir Hatami similarly affirmed that the unity of the people and the military had thwarted enemy objectives.
US and 'Israel' fail to break Iran’s resolve
Sayyari also highlighted that all of the enemies’ conspiracies, from imposed wars to cultural and hybrid warfare, were aimed at weakening the Iranian nation, yet failed in the face of popular resolve.
He reminded that before the Islamic Revolution, Iran had already shown resilience by standing up to an armed-to-the-teeth regime and ultimately emerging victorious.
“The enemies’ goal in launching the imposed war and the 12-day aggression was to defeat the Revolution and destroy our country’s territorial integrity. However, our people defended their homeland with the bare minimum of resources, and by standing up to the enemies, they forced them to take their dreams to the grave,” Sayyari affirmed.
On June 13, “Israel” launched an unprovoked aggression against Iran, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. The United States escalated the assault by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in a violation of international law.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces struck strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest US military base in West Asia. By June 24, Iran’s retaliatory operations had caused significant damage, forcing “Israel” and the US to end the aggression.
