The Foreign Ministry of Yemen's Sanaa-based government has addressed the United Nations and the UN Security Council concerning the Israeli attack on the Haziz power plant, emphasizing their obligation to uphold international peace and security.

"The Israeli aggression on the Haziz power station is a dangerous escalation that threatens peace and security in the region, and a blatant and grave violation of the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter," the Yemeni Foreign Minister asserted.

Foreign Minister Jamal Amer sent an urgent message to the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Human Rights Council, stressing that this attack constitutes a full-fledged war crime under international humanitarian law.

Amer clarified that "the Israeli targeting of the Haziz power station has completely taken it out of service, depriving millions of civilians in the capital and surrounding areas of electricity, an essential service needed to operate hospitals, water pumps, and other vital facilities for daily life."

In his message, he also emphasized that attacking civilian infrastructure constitutes a blatant violation of the UN Charter, the Geneva Conventions, and their additional protocols.

The letter highlighted that "Israel's" attack is an attempt to force Sanaa to shift its stance and stop backing the Palestinian people in Gaza, while stressing that "Yemen’s position, at the level of the government and the people, remains steadfast, principled, and unaltered until the aggression ends and the blockade on Gaza is lifted."

The message held the UN and its Security Council responsible for defending global security, calling for an "explicit and formal condemnation of this hostile act" along with "enforcement measures under Chapter VII of the UN Charter to prevent further violations, as well as the establishment of a neutral, independent international commission to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators."

'Israel' targets electricity plant in Yemen

Earlier today, the Israeli occupation officially claimed responsibility for an attack targeting the Haziz power station in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

A series of explosions rocked the Yemeni capital in the early hours of Sunday following an Israeli attack on the power station in the Haziz area, according to Al Mayadeen's correspondent.

The Foreign Ministry cautioned that if the international community hesitates or remains silent about this atrocity, it would signal tacit approval for "Israel" to intensify its attacks, a reckless endorsement that weakens global institutions, threatens to destabilize the Red Sea region further, and could trigger an unrestricted Yemeni retaliation with repercussions extending worldwide.
