The Gaza Government Media Office published a statement on Friday marking two years since the Israeli occupation’s genocide in Gaza started, detailing mass civilian deaths, destruction, and famine while urging accountability and reconstruction in light of the ceasefire agreement.
"Today we stand before a pivotal historical moment, after two full years, 735 days, have passed since the most atrocious crimes in contemporary history were committed against 2.4 million Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, who have been subjected to a systematic genocide that has encompassed every facet of life: people, trees, stones, and institutions," the statement said.
It further outlined the Israeli army's genocide in the territory, stating that "Israel" used food, water, and medicine as weapons of war, destroyed 90% of civilian infrastructure, and occupied more than 80% of Gaza through invasion, gunfire, and forced displacement, a crime against humanity that violates international law.
Additionally, the Gaza Government Media Office detailed that the Israeli army dropped more than 200,000 tons of explosives on Gaza and struck the Al-Mawassi area in Khan Younis more than 150 times despite its designation by the Israelis themselves as a "safe humanitarian zone," proving that targeting civilians was an intentional policy.
'Israel's' harrowing massacres on full display
The statement outlined the extent of the massacres committed by "Israel", detailing that over just two years, the number of martyrs and missing has reached approximately 77,000, with over 67,000 martyrs having been received by hospitals, while at least 9,500 Palestinians remain missing.
Among the martyrs are more than 20,000 children, 12,500 women, including 9,000 mothers. The victims also include more than 1,000 children under the age of one and 450 infants who were born and killed during the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation army.
All fields targeted
The statement noted that in the crimes targeting humanitarian and service personnel, more than 1,670 members of medical staff, 140 civil defense personnel, 254 journalists, and over 1,000 civil defense and municipal police officers have been killed while carrying out their duties, in addition to the hundreds of municipal employees and humanitarian relief workers who have been killed.
The number of wounded and injured has reached approximately 170,000, including thousands who require rehabilitation and treatment abroad, in addition to hundreds of cases of amputations, paralysis, and loss of sight, while more than 6,700 Palestinian detainees, including medical and journalistic personnel, continue to be subjected to severe torture in the occupation prisons.
Widespread destruction of all facets of life
The statement detailed the complete collapse of the healthcare sector, noting that 38 hospitals and dozens of health centers and ambulances have been destroyed or rendered inoperative.
According to the office, healthcare services have been subjected to more than 788 direct attacks.
It further stated that the occupation has destroyed 670 schools and 165 universities and educational institutions, killing 13,500 students, 830 teachers, and 193 scholars and academics in what it described as a deliberate attempt to annihilate Palestinian consciousness.
The statement also detailed the targeting of places of worship, reporting that the occupation has completely destroyed 835 mosques, partially destroyed dozens more, and assaulted 3 churches, while also destroying 40 cemeteries, stealing more than 2,450 bodies, and establishing 7 mass graves inside hospitals, in a pattern of behavior that reflects the most extreme degree of human depravity.
It additionally addressed the housing sector, reporting that the occupation has destroyed approximately 300,000 housing units completely and an additional 200,000 units extensively or partially, which has led to the forced displacement of nearly 2 million people who have been crowded into tattered tents unfit for living, where they have endured the most extreme and harsh conditions.
Israeli-engineered famine
Regarding the policy of starvation, the statement said the occupation has closed the crossings into the sector for over 600 days and prevented the entry of hundreds of thousands of aid trucks while also targeting dozens of soup kitchens and aid distribution centers.
The famine has led to the deaths of more than 460 civilians from hunger and malnutrition and over 2,600 starved people in the "death traps" for aid.
The initial direct losses to all vital sectors have exceeded $70 billion, a figure which reflects the scale of the comprehensive and systematic destruction that the Gaza Strip has endured throughout two full years of genocide, the statement noted.
Ceasefire ushers in a new phase in Gaza
"In light of the signing of a ceasefire agreement and the beginning of a new phase of national and humanitarian work, we issue a national appeal to the people of our great Palestinian nation for full cooperation with governmental and humanitarian bodies in carrying out the required field and professional duties across all sectors, so that everyone, in their place, can contribute to enhancing our people's steadfastness and to the gradual restoration of life in our resilient sector," the statement emphasized.
"Our great people have emerged from a war of genocide, siege, starvation, and immense destruction, and we all feel the depth of their wounds and suffering, fully aware of the scale of the pain that defines their daily lives," the Gaza Government Media Office stated.
"Therefore, we are dealing with this phase with a spirit of national and humanitarian responsibility and an approach based on caring for our citizens, alleviating their suffering, comforting them, and reinforcing their resilience with all the capabilities we possess," it explained.
The Gaza Government Media Office emphasized that public cooperation, discipline, and adherence to governmental and relief instructions represent the safest path to accelerating organized relief, shelter, and the restoration of essential services, which, in turn, safeguards the security and stability of the community.
Furthermore, it honored the Palestinians' legendary patience and steadfastness. It affirmed its commitment to stand with them, provide comfort and support, and use all its resources to secure basic needs like food, medicine, and shelter, pledging to fulfill its duty to protect their rights and rebuild what the occupation destroyed.
Call to action in the face of genocide
The Gaza Government Media Office expressed deep reverence for the Palestinian people's resilience and condemned, in the strongest terms, the two-year campaign of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and other atrocities for which it holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible.
The statement issued a series of urgent demands, calling for an immediate and total end to the killing, bombardment, siege, and forced displacement. It emphasized the critical need to lift the blockade entirely, open all crossings for unrestricted aid, and secure the immediate release of all Palestinian prisoners and detainees and the return of bodies withheld by the occupation. It further demanded the urgent evacuation of the sick and wounded, especially children and cancer patients, for treatment abroad.
Finally, the office called upon the international community, the United Nations, and legal bodies like the ICC to ensure accountability for the occupation's leaders, denying them any immunity. It demanded an independent investigation into war crimes, a guaranteed right to return with compensation for the displaced, and the launch of a transparent, internationally-funded plan for the comprehensive reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
Concluding its statement, the Gaza Government Media Office insisted that any ceasefire must be genuine and complete, not just symbolic, emphasizing that it must end the siege, ensure accountability, and secure a safe, dignified life for the Palestinian people who have endured two years of bombing, starvation, and displacement.
